Learning to Read with McGuffey + free printables.

Big E just turned 9 and is really struggling with learning to read because he has a bit of a short term memory block.  We can work on a word list for 5 minutes on one worksheet then switch to another worksheet with the same words and he has a hard time remembering what the words are.

He says .. "letters & words are my nemesis because they fight to get out of my head".

We started using the McGuffey Primer lessons again last week (we used them awhile back & he wasn't interested at all) from the Easy Peasy website.  We are also using the Phonics and Reading with McGuffey iPad App, which Big E really seems to like, I think mostly just because it is on the iPad.  I created some tracing worksheets to go along with each lesson.  I did find other worksheets but they had lines, which really seem to distract Big E because he gets very frustrated if he writes above or below the lines while tracing the words, so I created the worksheets without lines.

Repetition is our strategy right now.

We space each assignment throughout the day, starting with the "Look at Your Words" lesson on Easy Peasy, then we move on to the iPad App and the worksheets a little later.  This method seems to be helping Big E retain the words, as well as, boost his confidence a little more with each word that he recognizes and reads.

I will be adding more worksheets to the file each week as I create them.  I created these worksheets to share with others for free.  If you would like to share them, please use a link to this blog post & not directly to the Google Drive link.  Thank you!
