Time 4 Learning ~ Review

Time 4 Learning is an award-winning online education program for preschool through 12th grade that uses multimedia activities to teach standards-based curriculum. It can be used for homeschooling, after-school tutoring, and summer learning by any student in K-8th grade for $19.95 per month. Plus $14.95 per month for additional students. The High School program is $30.00 per month.
For the purpose of this review we were given a 6-month subscription to use with Eli, who age wise is 2nd grade...however, his reading skill level is more of a Kindergarten level. I decided to start Eli out with the 1st grade level with all of the subjects. After the first language arts lesson though, we moved him down to the Kindergarten level. Changing levels is very easy to do with a quick email to customer support.
I like the fact that Eli never realized that his level was "Kindergarten" because the grade levels aren't plastered all over the place for everyone to see. Eli gets a little sensitive sometimes when he notices that we are using Kindergarten leveled materials. Eli did have a small complaint about some of the characters and/or visuals that are used being "too young or baby-like"...which is usually the case for most programs that we come across because they are geared more towards 4-6 year olds that are just learning to read, not 8 year olds that are just learning to read.
All of the lessons are sequenced & displayed for easy following....once your child has completed a lesson, it is very easy to know where they are supposed to go next. This allows for a little more independence for the students to complete their assignments.
Eli is very computer-techno-game motivated...he loves working on the computer or iPad so Time 4 Learning is a great fit for him. Eli said that most of the time he didn't feel like he was actually doing school because the lessons were fun and game-like. There are also worksheets/resources that can be printed with some of the lessons.
Another "plus" are the "Tools for Parents". As a parent you can access the lesson plans before hand to know what your child will be learning and to know if you need to print anything out for the day.
I also like the reports that you can print out for record-keeping purposes.
I must confess though...we actually used Time 4 Learning with our daughter when we first started homeschooling in 2005 as her entire curriculum. She really enjoyed it then. We only stopped using it due to financial reasons. Since we have already spent the majority of our homeschool budget for 2013-14, sadly we probably won't be able to continue to use Time 4 Learning with Eli after our review subscription runs out. However, if it is made possible financially, I can honestly say that we would definitely continue to use it because Eli really did enjoy it too.
