We were recently given the opportunity to review an online reading program called Reading Kingdom. This fun, interactive reading program is designed to teach children ages 4 to 10 to learn to read and write to a third grade level.
Reading Kingdom was created by Dr. Marion Blank, using his patented 6 Skill Integrated Method that teaches more than just phonics and/or comprehension. The six skills of reading and writing are: sequencing, sounds, motor, meaning, Grammar, and comprehension. When children are taught all six skills in an integrated fashion they easily master both reading and writing.
Reading Kingdom has a skill assessment in the beginning to customize itself to your child. So there is no wondering or trying to figure where to start your child, the program does it for you.
It is recommended that your child use this program at least 3 to 5 times each week. Each session takes about 15 to 30 minutes at a time and your child works completely independent, with the exception of technical support. Working independently allows the program to adapt to your childs skill level.This independent work is an added bonus for me because it allows me the time to work with my other children on their lessons.
We used this program 3 to 4 times each week with our Eli, who is 8 years old and having a difficult time learning to read. Eli has almost completed (92%) the Seeing Sequences and Letter Land level, which I believe is the Preschool level. This level is a lot of repetition, which Eli gets very frustrated with. When he gets frustrated he has a very hard time concentrating on the task at hand, so his progress slows down a bit.
All in all, Eli has enjoyed the program and loves to see himself progress to the next level.
